What is God’s Purpose For Business

I wasn’t trying to listen in, but their loud voices floated across the room.

“Businesses are greedy, they’re always charging more and never pay their workers enough. They’re just out to make money while taking advantage of us. The other day I got ripped off so bad”

Being the only woman in my circle of friends who owned my own business, I constantly wondered if being in business was a calling from God?

Should I even be in the marketplace as a Christian woman? Or was my place strictly at home

I certainly didn’t want to share that I had my own business, there was no way I wanted to be associated with greedy business owners.

Today we’ll be looking at the Bible to see if being in business as a woman is a calling from God and how we can honor Him with our businesses.

Started my own business to make money serving others

Like many of you, I started my own business to make money serving others with my skills and provide for my family.

Yet, I constantly wrestled with wondering if being in business was ok… as a woman.

It wasn’t until I began studying everything the Bible said about money that I realized there was a lot God said about business as well.

God created business as a means that we can partner with Him to serve others and make the world a better place

He created the system of exchanging money for a service or a product provided that made someone’s life better.

There’s a Hebrew word Avodah, which means to Work, to Worship God and to Serve Others. This word is used multiple times throughout the Bible.

When you have a heart to genuinely serve others through your work and desire to honor God through your business like so many of you do, this is fulfilling God’s purpose for business.

A few examples of where Avodah shows up in the Bible are

  • Genesis 2:15

“The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it,” using the meaning for Work.

  • Deut 10:12

“And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,” this has the meaning of worship.

  • Genesis 29:15

uses the meaning of serving others through your work. Laban said to him, “Just because you are my relative, should you work for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.”

In my last video, I talked about how both men and women were given the command by God to be fruitful and multiply. We were given this charge to have dominion over all the land, animals, and crops, which are all types of businesses.

Being in business is a calling from God for women as well!

Yes, being home and raising your children to follow God is a great calling as well, but I don’t see that as the only God-given calling for Christian women, especially when there are numerous passages throughout the Bible of women and their professions named directly.

Anytime you see a theme carried through multiple passages of Scripture, you have to slow down to consider the importance and significance of that theme.

We have to understand the importance of Godly women who are in business within the Scriptures and apply these principles to our businesses.

Christian women especially are actually well suited for being in business

I believe Christian women especially are actually well suited for being in business as you care deeply about serving others, you want to bring kingdom restoration to those around you and your deepest desire is to honor God with your business along with the money you make.

Not to mention how extremely generous Christian businesswomen are so that your entire community will be blessed because of you!

Yet, we have an enemy who takes the good things that God has created, like partnering with God to serve people through your business, and twists them into something full of corruption, greed, and deceit.

No Godly woman wants to be associated with that kind of evil that we see in the business world!

Narratives you’ve been told from others that your place is at home and you should not be in business as a Christian woman

The problem comes about when you believe all the narratives you’ve been told from others that your place is at home and you should not be in business as a Christian woman.

Or that being in business is greedy and selfish, and business owners are just out to make more money at the expense of others.

Because when you believe these lies, there are so many ways your business and the ways you serve others will be crippled.

You won’t experience the fullness of joyful purpose that comes from being confident in your calling to business and understanding God’s key to business + money.

That’s why it’s important to get to the root of these negative beliefs you have about being a Christian woman in business and replace them with the truth found in the Word of God.

the Spiritual and Honorable Nature of Business

Inside my Becoming a Legacy Builder program, I go deep into the Spiritual and Honorable Nature of Business and how business truly reflects God’s character, His goodness, and His kingdom restoration.

We address the lies about business owners being greedy and selfish, only out to make money at the expense of others,  along with the hesitancy to receive fair payment for the work you do and so much more!

This mindset shift is simple and highly effective when you include the Word of God and Biblical principles.

All my students who show up and do the work, get powerful transformational mindset breakthroughs around business and money within 3 months, often within the first couple of weeks!

My mission is to equip you with Scripture-based tools and strategies so that you can use your business to create a massive impact and legacy in your community for God’s glory!

Matthew 5:14, Jesus says you are the light of the world, a city on the hill cannot be hidden.

Cities are places of community, centers of economic and business prosperity with numerous ways of serving others,  education, and protection along with so much more benefits. Doesn’t that sound like a business?

As you show up confidently in the calling to business God has placed on your life, you serve multitudes of grateful clients to make their lives better, and you manage both your business and the revenue you make in ways that honor God, this is being a city on a hill.

Think how bright you will shine in the business world that is so full of corruption, evil, and greed. Imagine how God will be glorified and so many will be blessed through your business!

Your business is a direct reflection of an aspect of Jesus’ ministry

In fact, your business is a direct reflection of an aspect of Jesus’ ministry and in more numerous ways than Jesus did.

My pastor was talking about this one time and gave a few examples that stuck with me.

You may never heal a paralyzed man, but if your business is being a chiropractor or a physical therapist, you are restoring function and movement to people’s bodies.

You may never silence the storm and the waves with a word, but if you’re a relationship coach, the strategies you speak and give to your clients will calm the storms of fighting in their marriage.

You may never feed five thousand with a few loaves and fish, but if you own a catering business, you feed thousands of people all the time.

This way of looking at business has completely changed how I look at business.

What’s even more powerful is to find a passage or a verse in the Bible that describes how your business reflects an aspect of Jesus’ ministry and use that to remind yourself that yes, you are called to business!

What if you are called to business to restore the image of business back to what God intended?

What if because of how you show up in business as a Godly Christian lady who reflects God’s design for business, you start to overhear conversations like

“That business truly cares about their customers and they do well by their employees, everyone who works there is so happy. You always get excellent service, in fact, they went above and beyond, really taking care of me the last time I went in.

There’s something different, something refreshing about that business, I wonder if it’s because of the God they serve. They’ve really done so much good for the community.”

What if you are called to a business for such a time as this and being in business is the best way you can love the Lord with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength as well as love your neighbor as yourself?

Now that you as a Christian woman your business is a calling from God and it’s a great way to shine His goodness to those around you, I encourage you to start paying attention to the shifts that are being made right now in the business world and will continue to shift over the next 10 years

You need to know about these huge shifts so that you can position your business to be a light in the darkness and impact multitudes!
