Are you wondering if it’s wrong to love money? But if you don’t love money, does that mean it won’t come to you?
As a Christian, it can be confusing when you hear the Law of Attraction saying that you have to love money in order for it to come to you… is that really based on Biblical money principles?
In this video I’ll break down what it means to love money and where the law of attraction falls short of Biblical principles, so you can be confident in receiving the abundance God has for you and knowing your love, your affections line up with God’s word.
Is it wrong to love money?
Money itself isn’t bad. It’s all about your heart. Is your love for money more than your love for God?
We’re called to love the Lord our God with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength.
We often hear the verse the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Tim 6:10) thrown around.
But what does it mean to love money more than we love God?
Let me take you to James 5:3-6 for a practical example of what your life would look like if you love money more than God
James 5:3-6
You have hoarded treasure in the last days. Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous, who did not resist you.
When you love money more than you love God, it can look like..
- Hoarding treasure just for yourself
- Withholding wages from workers + oppressing others
- No concern for human life
- Unethical business practices
- Living in gross luxury and self-indulgence at the expense of others
- Causing great harm to others through your lack of generosity
- Full of pride – all this wealth is your own doing
- Forgetting God and not reflecting His character accurately
These are a few of the evil practices you can do when you love money more than God and it becomes an idol in your heart.
However, when you Love God With all your heart
The overflow of your love for God shines forth in your approach to money and business, take the following as examples…
- You both enjoy and share your money/treasure with others
- You are concerned for others and their needs and use your money to meet those needs
- You make sure your vendors/employers are paid fairly and on time
- Run your business ethically
- Live an abundant lifestyle marked by outrageous generosity
- This lifestyle was built from serving others through your business, in partnership with God (doesn’t mean you have to give everything away either)
- Remember God is the one who has given you the skills to serve others through your business, the power to create wealth, and the ability to reflect His generosity towards everyone around you
You are Loving God with whole heart and mind and soul all while loving your neighbor as yourself... AND THIS IS GOOD!

Money is a Tool
You aren’t loving money, but rather using money as a tool for great good!
Money was created for purpose that we might know and love the Lord your God, and walk with Him doing good in this world.
Money shows us that
God is the provider.
It’s His money and we are stewards, given the money to manage wisely.
God wants us to reflect Him as RESTORERS as we go about solving a problem for someone else through business.
He delights in this so much that He created money so that you get paid by grateful clients for that work you do!
God provides the skills and wisdom so you can serve others.
With the overflow of revenue from serving others, you have the ability to reflect His generosity and make a huge impact on those around you.

Let's Talk about The Law of attraction
Law of attraction states that you should love money if you want to have it and if you just believe it’s possible, then money will just come…
Because your positive thoughts are creating this reality of abundance of money coming to you.
Yet... This is only partially true
The Bible does say
“Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:22-24
We are called to renew our thoughts (Romans 12:2) and think on good, honorable and lovely things (Phil 4:8)… this does include believing God’s promises of abundances are ours as a result of His redemption.
AND there are the practical steps you take to partner with God in obedience to bring about your request, to bring about His promises of abundance.
The Law of Attraction doesn’t talk about the actions we need to take to see this abundance of grateful clients and revenue, or whatever you’re believing for.
YES! On occasion God does provide miraculous gifts of money from unexpected sources and He uses people to be the vessel for His blessing upon you.
However, when you choose to love God with your whole heart, trusting in Him to provide and taking action in your business to serve others,
this is the primary method God uses to bring more money and more abundance into your life
What you should Love
Wanting more money to provide for your family.
Desiring to increase the revenue in your business so you can be more generous.
Excited to grow your business and serve more people by partnering with God
None of this is Wrong!
You should love to do all these things because they are the
Let your love for God keep you grounded in that it’s through His provision,
His wisdom and skills He’s given you that you’re able to bring in the money through serving others
Remember it’s His money to steward wisely.
Be filled with gratitude, remembrance and obedience because these are the keys to loving the Creator of the money (the tool)
rather than loving the tool itself.
Money requires faith
Now spending and receiving money does require a lot of faith, especially if you’re a business owner, and it’s more about faith in what God says about money than trying to attract money by only thinking positive thoughts.
What does that mean and how do you increase your money by increasing your faith?
