From panicking about money to making peace with money, I’m pulling back the curtain on my own experience with what I thought about money.
Over the last 12 years, I’ve come a long way with how I think about money.
There was only one place that felt safe enough to go to for help as I didn’t feel comfortable talking about money with anyone else because of the judgement they’d certainly give.
If someone like me can get rid of the money fear that grips you and makes you panic, there’s hope that anyone can do it too!
With many things, I consider myself a pretty “together” person. But with this fear of money everything goes down the drain!
I was at the grocery store and had just added up the total.
$53 over. Again.
My chest squeezed tight, it was hard to breathe and tears slipped out of the corner of my eye.
This moment in the grocery store wasn’t the first time money had made me panic.
Running my Business
I was so afraid of rejection and afraid to sell.
I didn’t want to come off like I was only focused on getting money… yet I NEEDED to make money as I was the one paying all the bills at home.
Managing Money
No matter what I did, I’d never been good with money.
Every time I’d sit down to play catch up with a massive pile of receipts (not to mention tracking my business expenses for taxes) from the last several months…
I’d end up in tears from the overwhelming sense of failure. Why couldn’t I make this work?
Talking about Money
Anytime my husband would tell me that he bought something or I’d have to tell him that we got an unexpected bill, I’d be so stressed that I’d snap at him and we’d end up fighting.
I was constantly worried that there was never going to be enough money, going over and over in my head how I could work more to make ends meet.
Snide Comments
When a colleague said ‘ohh you’re a sugar mama’
or family would say, ‘when is he going to get a job so you can stay home’
or someone would email me, ‘I can’t believe you’re charging to help someone and you say you’re a Christian? You should be ashamed of yourself’
My stomach would twist into knots of shame.
Was it really ok for me as a Christian woman to be the breadwinner?
If I made a lot of money, would I become an uncaring jerk?
Am I being greedy and selfish when I charge for my services?
I couldn't Ask for help
Now I have so much passion and purpose since I understand God’s key to money.
There’s finally peace of mind. I’m now excited to partner with God to serve others + make the world a better place through my business, cultivating godly wealth and leaving a legacy that reflects God’s goodness as a result.
